Join Mark Peer, P.Eng, Tylor (TJ) Bradbury and David Hatto from the Government of Northwest Territories, Department of Infrastructure, Asset Management, for this virtual, PD-eligible brown bag session on GNWT Biomass: Past, Present and Looking Forward.
As leaders in utilizing biomass to heat public buildings, the GNWT has committed to utilizing renewable energy, reducing GHG emissions and the North’s reliance on fuel oil for building heating. Over the last several decades the GNWT has invested heavily in biomass for heating in public buildings currently approximately 37% of the energy for heat comes from biomass. This presentation will cover why the GNWT started utilizing Biomass, where we are today and what direction it will take in the future.
When: September 18, 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. MDT
Where: Virtual (link will be provided upon registration)
Note: This Brown Bag session is PD-eligible.

Presenters:
Mark Peer, P.Eng
Mark is currently the Manager, Design and Technical Services – Facilities with the Dept Infrastructure, GNWT. He spent 15 years in the private sector as a cold regions Mechanical Engineer and was involved in many of the first Biomass installations in the NWT. Since moving over to the GNWT in 2015 he has continued being involved in providing biomass for public facilities and developing biomass infrastructure in NWT communities.
Tylor (TJ) Bradbury
4th Class Power Engineer and Red Seal Oil Heat Systems Technician. Started in the HVAC industry in 2007 with a focus on building operations and maintenance, including 10 years working with various GNWT biomass systems. His current role includes managing the GNWT’s Capital Asset Retrofit Fund, which provides funding for energy-saving upgrades (such as biomass) in existing GNWT assets.
David Hatto
David spent the first 17 years of his career working in the mechanical field as a plumber, oil burner technician, power engineer and controls technician. Currently, David is the Manager, Facilities and Properties with the Department of Infrastructure. Over the past the past 13 years with the GNWT David has worked primarily in Design & Technical Services in the mechanical technical field. A good portion of that work was with designers, contractors and operation and maintenance teams installing, operating, and maintaining the GNWT biomass systems. This experience brought to the GNWT has allowed David to help support the GNWT’s biomass program to help reduce the GNWT’s GHG emissions and successfully reduce the GNWT’s reliance on fossil fuels.
