De Beers Group was proud to host WomEng for the first time in Canada for a one-day pilot GirlEng workshop for high school girls in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories (NWT). WomEng is a South Africa-based non-profit organization that is focused on supporting girls and women to seek careers in the engineering and technology workforce. It was founded in 2006 and is active in more than 24 countries around the world. In November 2022, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) put forward Bill 67: An Act to Amend the Fire Prevention Act (Bill 67). Bill 67 has been referred to the Standing Committee on Government Operations (Committee) for review.   Bill 67 proposes several changes to the Fire Prevention Act with the aim to:   Add liability exclusion for fire officials, including the Fire Marshal, performing statutory functions under the Fire Prevention Act. The public review of proposed changes to the 2020 editions of the National Model Codes is underway, and stakeholders and code users have until Dec. 23, 2022 to examine the proposed code changes and provide comments. The public review opened in October under the Canadian Commission on Building and Fires Codes (CCBFC). Since that time, the CCBFC has been replaced by the new Canadian Board for Harmonized Construction Codes, which is carrying forward this review.
