The Finnigan Awards for NWT, Nunavut and Yukon Are Now Open

The Finnigan Awards for Northern Research are open to Geology and Earth Sciences students with a thesis relevant to the territories they will be presenting in, at either the Yellowknife Geoscience Forum, the Nunavut Mining Symposium, or the Yukon Geoscience Forum. 

  • 1 Award to cover travel, accommodations and per diems to attend, up to $2,000 (NT, NU and YT)
  • 1 Award each for Best Student Oral Presentation and Poster to cover travel, accommodations and per diems up to $1,000 (NT only) 

Objectives

NAPEG encourages the achievement of excellence in the engineering and geosciences professions through the promotion of advanced studies and research programs. By providing financial assistance to researchers working in the northern territories the Association seeks to encourage young geoscientists to communicate effectively to their peers and the public, an important skill in the development of a professional practitioner.

Eligibility

To be eligible, the applicant must be enrolled in a Canadian university and registered in a Geology or Earth Sciences program that includes a thesis with a subject relevant to the territory in which the results would be presented. The applicant must also have submitted an abstract (or similar document) for a talk or poster presentation at the conference indicated on their application form. The applicant must attend this conference and give the presentation to receive scholarship funding.

Deadlines to Apply

Applications will be accepted until September 30th, 2024 for the NWT and Yukon conferences and until November 22nd, 2024 for the Nunavut Mining Symposium. They can be submitted at any time to registrar@napeg.nt.ca
