MITs and New Professionals

APEGA’s Board of Examiners is also NAPEG’s Board of Examiners.  All NAPEG Professional Engineer and Professional Geoscientist applicants not already registered in another Canadian jurisdiction, and all Member-In-Training applicants, will be required to submit an online application through the APEGA website for membership with NAPEG.

Initial Application Steps:

To apply as a Member-In-Training (MIT) or New Professional to NAPEG, complete the Application for Registration and submit to NAPEG.  This form is to collect preliminary applicant information for the NAPEG office only.  You will still be required to complete the full application process through APEGA’s online application system.

In addition to the Application for Registration, you must submit the following to NAPEG:

  • a copy of your current resumé
  • a copy of valid government issued photo identification
  • NAPEG Essay (if applying for Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist status)
  • the application fee

Once NAPEG receives all the items in the list above, you will be issued a Verification Code that you will enter into APEGA’s online application system in order to complete the full application process.  The Verification Code will allow you to submit an application without payment to APEGA.

Please note that if applying for Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist status, APEGA will not accept your application if you have less than four (4) years of engineering or geoscience experience. If you have less than four (4) years of experience, you must apply to be a Member-in-Training.  The Board of Examiners will consider increased technical competency and increasing levels of responsibility during the evaluation of your experience.

APEGA’s Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) system went live on May 2, 2018. This will affect all applications for Professional Engineer designations that are initiated after the CBA launch. All Professional Geoscience applicants will continue using the existing Work Experience Record.  For more information, email registration@apega.ca.
