Winter 2024 – ED Update
We’re finally through the darkest days of the year and are moving closer to the equinox. It’s been a busy couple of months at NAPEG as we opened membership renewals, awarded scholarships, celebrated the holidays, kicked off our 2024 elections, and began planning the 2024 Professional Development Symposium.
We’ve also been working with the Government of the Northwest Territories to continue to work towards incoming regulatory changes to the professional practice of engineering and geoscience.
Learn about this and more in this winter edition of the Winter 2024 – ED Update below.

The Regulation of Professional Engineering and Geoscience in the Northwest Territories is Changing
On October 3rd, 2023, after many years of collaborative work between NAPEG and the Government of the Northwest Territories, the Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly passed Bill 93. This thrusted the new Practice of Engineering, Geoscience and Applied Science Technology Act into action.
The new, modernized Act will help match industry standards in the territory to other Canadian jurisdictions and it will give NAPEG authority and duties that have become common in other professional associations in Canada.
The new Act will require significant work by NAPEG drafting bylaws and new policies – work that has already begun and will continue to roll out in a staged approach over the next two to three years. To learn about what these new changes will concentrate on, read more here.
Thanks for reading!
