Nominate a Candidate
Can you think of a Canadian citizen who is designing a better world? This person may be an architect, a landscape architect, a designer, an engineer, an artist… think openly and broadly! We’d like to hear about all individuals who are positively shaping the physical world we live in. Anyone can make a nomination – you can even nominate yourself. Anyone making a positive tangible impact on our physical environment is eligible to become the next recipient of the Margolese National Design for Living Prize.
Nominations are open
Nominations are open between February and March 2021 and must include the following:
- Name, email, and phone number of nominator and name of candidate.
- Up to 500 words (text or bullet point format) describing the candidate’s contribution to the built environment.
Eligibility
The Margolese National Design for Living Prize is open to any Canadian citizen who is doing outstanding work in a field related to the built environment. Margolese Prize candidates are addressing rapidly changing social, ecological, and cultural challenges. They may be contributing to the built environment in areas such as:
- Affordable housing and social infrastructure
- Community design and public space
- Ecological design and biodiversity
- Climate change and resilience
- Human health and well-being
- Food security and water quality
- Social equity and environmental justice
- Mobility and transportation
- Disaster and pandemic relief
- Universal design and accessibility
Their contributions will have:
- Demonstrated tangible and far-reaching impact and benefit
- Reflected the power of design to enhance social, cultural or economic well-being
- Inspired others or led to replicated similar initiatives
Selection Process
Following the nomination period, a shortlist of candidates will be selected by a steering committee. These shortlisted candidates or their nominators will be notified and invited to submit additional supporting information via the Margolese Prize website for consideration by a selection committee. This additional information contains the following:
- Confirmation of Canadian citizenship
- A PDF between 1-3 pages (in text or bullet point format) describing the candidate’s work and how it is positively improving our built environment through design
- Up to 10 supporting image files
- Media articles and website links supporting the application are also welcome
Supporting materials will be due mid-May with selection committee deliberations to follow in mid-June. The successful candidate will be notified in July and announced publicly in September. An award ceremony and related events will be held in October. The format of this event will be dependent on the nature of the prize winner.
