"From Pole to Pole: A Tale of Exploring Other Worlds by Exploring our Own"
by Dr. Gordon "Oz" Osinski
The idea that objects from outer space periodically strike the Earth is not new. But the realization that meteorite impact events have profoundly affected the origin and evolution of the Earth, and of life itself, has resulted in a paradigm shift in the natural sciences in recent years. From collecting meteorites in Antarctica to exploring the most recently identified impact crater in Canada on Victoria Island, NWT, this talk will showcase some of the many ways that the exploration of some of the Earth’s remotest regions is shedding light on some of the biggest scientific questions of our time – how did life originate on Earth and are we alone in the Universe?
